System software controls hardware and provides a platform for applications (e.g., Windows, Linux). Application software performs specific tasks (e.g., MS Word, Tally, Photoshop).

Virtual memory is memory used by the computer when RAM is full. It uses part of the hard disk as temporary RAM to allow more programs to run simultaneously.

BIOS (Basic Input Output System) initializes hardware during booting and loads the operating system into memory.

A 32-bit OS can handle less RAM (up to 4GB) and processes data in 32-bit chunks. A 64-bit OS supports much more RAM and processes data faster with 64-bit chunks.
